Soundview Family Dental’s Dr. Julie Hewett is pleased to help you (or your teen) straighten your teeth with the Invisalign® clear aligners system. Over 4 million people worldwide have used Invisalign to reveal a newly straightened, beautiful smile. If your smile currently has gaps, an overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite, or overcrowded teeth, Invisalign could be the treatment that solves these confidence crushers. And one of the best parts of treatment? The aligners are virtually invisible!
Chances are good you’ve heard of Invisalign already, and you may have wondered about whether it could work for you (and your budget). Dr. Hewett would love to help you find out with a comprehensive consultation. Invisalign treatment is safe, simple, and you could have the straight smile you’ve hoped for in as little as 12 months!
Your consultation will include digital x-rays for quick, precise images of your teeth. Using these images, we’ll be able to create an intuitive treatment plan that details the movements of your teeth, gives you the length of time it should take, and 3D imaging lets you see a preview of your newly straightened smile.
You’ll wear your finely calibrated aligners – as few as 12 or as many as 48 – for 22 hours a day and switch them out every week or every other week according to your treatment plan. You’ll only want to remove the aligners to eat, drink, and conduct your oral hygiene routine.
This might feel intensive, but consider that they’re not metal brackets and wires that hinder your ability to enjoy your favorite foods and get in the way of brushing and flossing. The success of your treatment relies on your diligence. We want your smile to straighten as quickly as you do!
Is it hard to talk while wearing the aligners?
It can take a little bit of time to get used to speaking while wearing your aligners. Their proper fit should make it easy enough after the initial adjustment period, especially if you’re on the more talkative side.
How do I clean my aligners?
Because they’ll be in your mouth for 22 hours a day, your aligners will collect the bacteria present in your mouth and require cleaning just like your teeth and tongue. You can use your toothbrush and toothpaste to gently clean them.
Is treatment with Invisalign painful?
Any time we’re talking about moving bone, there will be some discomfort involved. However, it should feel like a minor amount of pressure and dissipate after the first couple days of wear.
How often will I see the dentist?
You’ll see us every five to six weeks to ensure your Invisalign treatment is moving along as planned.
What happens after I’ve completed treatment?
As with all orthodontic treatments, you will be instructed to wear a retainer nightly. Maintaining your healthy bite and newly straightened teeth will be dependent on making this a habit. Dr. Hewett can go over retainer options with you for the most comfort and convenience.
